GCSE headlines
This year, 1,096 Year 11 pupils received tutoring. On average, pupils achieved one
whole grade of progress after just 10 hours of tuition. Mirroring our success in SATs,
tuition is narrowing the attainment gap for socially disadvantaged young people.

Pass rates are higher for disadvantaged pupils receiving tutoring
compared to their disadvantaged peers in the Local Authorities
(LAs) we worked in.9

they started tuition. After 10

average grade increased to 4.0,
a standard pass.

gap also narrowed. 56% of
disadvantaged pupils in the LAs
we served achieved a passing
grade of 4 or above, compared
to 80% of their peers. 59% of
disadvantaged pupils we tutored
achieved a passing grade,
narrowing the gap by 3pp.

Maths: Only 48% of
disadvantaged pupils achieved a
passing grade of 4 or above, whilst
76% of their non-disadvantaged
peers achieved the same, creating
a 28 percentage point (pp) gap.
However, Tutor Trust narrowed
this gap for disadvantaged
pupils receiving tutoring, with
62% achieving a passing grade,
narrowing the gap by 14pp.

46% of disadvantaged pupils
in the LAs we served achieved

compared to 69% of their peers.
