Case study: University
of Salford partnership
This year we launched a new partnership with The University of
Salford through a unique, directly funded project which enabled
us to recruit Salford students to deliver high quality tutoring for
over 400 young people across 15 primary schools in Salford.
Attainment
Through this partnership we narrowed the
attainment gap for socially disadvantaged
pupils in our 15 partner primary schools,
according to provisional data released
by the DfE for 2024/25.19

the civic purpose that should
sit at the heart of UK higher
education. By embedding
tutoring within our students’
experience, we are not only
enriching their skills and
con昀椀dence, but also helping to
narrow the attainment gap in our
local schools. It shows how universities can use their
knowledge, energy and people to create social value
beyond the campus. It is one of the most direct ways
we can make education fairer for all. Professor
